Love Changes Body Chemistry
Ah, love. In the heady days of a mutual crush, pulses race, knees go weak, and heads reel. So strong are these feelings, they’ve launched a thousand songs and poems. But it’s more than just a metaphor. Love does indeed impact our bodies in measurable ways. You feel different and are different. Read on to find out what researchers have discovered about this thing called love.
Dopamine is the brain’s pleasure chemical. It plays a role in gambling, drug use, and, well, love. When we fall in love, dopamine is released, making couples feel elated and energetic about each other. (more…)

Love Hurts
People who are primed to think about how madly in love they are with a partner put down other appealing members of their own sex, and are even more aggressive toward them, compared with people who are instead encouraged to ponder sex with a significant other, according to new research.
“Love, arguably the most positive of all human emotions, also comes with a dark side,” study researcher Jon Maner, a psychologist at Florida State University, said. (more…)
Fall Asleep after Sex, Why?
You share the same interests with your partner. You make each other laugh. And you fall asleep after sex. The last point turns out to be an important indicator of intimacy, according to a recent U.S. study. Researchers at the University of Michigan and Albright College in Pennsylvania found those whose partners tend to fall asleep first after sex are more into post-coital cuddling and chatting.
“The more one’s partner was likely to fall asleep after sex, the stronger the desire for bonding,” researcher Daniel Kruger of the University of Michigan said in a press release.
The researchers noted that period of time after sex can be important for couples to bond and establish their commitment to each other.
Their study, published in the December issue of the Journal of Social, Evolutionary, and Cultural Psychology, examined the responses of more than 450 online survey participants. (more…)

Things That Make a Man Sexy
So People dropped its annual Sexiest Man Alive list and leading the parade of eye candy is Bradley Cooper (cue the harps and choral angelic music). He is a hottie, oh yes indeedy he is, but he doesn’t wear the crown for all male fineness. There are a heap of men who are sexy — even if you have to appreciate them from afar because they have bodyguards and stuff. These celebs demonstrate qualities that make a man swoon-worthy:
Usher and I grew up together, so to speak. He was one of the many tween boy crushes I professed my love to when I was young. I’m not ashamed to admit that I had a poster of him next to my bed that I actually kissed goodnight. All the things that made him the object of my desire back then still stand true today: a guy who can sing and dance is hot. Mos Def may not seem like the typical heartthrob but he’s loaded with sexy. First of all, there’s his Brooklyn accent. That’s an appetizer to his intelligence, which amps his loveability. I fell in love with him when I heard him say “the upper echelons of academia.” Phew. Fan me. (more…)
Is Sex Addiction Real in Your Dreams
After surrendering their vibrators and porno DVDs, the stars of VH1′s “Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew” have chain-smoked their way through three long, sexless weeks of treatment. The motley crew of pseudo-celebrities — including a porn star, a beauty queen and an obscure rock musician — have stripped their emotions bare in nationally broadcast group therapy, tearfully sharing stories of past abuse, anonymous sex, hours upon hours of smut surfing and, above all else, consuming shame. But here’s a question that the show, which ended its first season Sunday night, never bothered to ask: Are these people really addicts?
Since the term was coined in 1983, “sex addiction” has become so embroidered in our self-help vocabulary that most of us stopped questioning it. The term gets bandied about whenever Bill Clinton logs extracurricular time with an intern or Eliot Spitzer gets caught having sex in his socks or David Duchovny separates from his wife. (more…)
